Candle Care

Do you know that caring for your candle makes a better experience? It extends the lifespan of your candle and allows a cleaner, more even and safer burn. Here are some guidelines to help to smooth out the caring process!

Safety

Do not leave your candles unattended until it’s extinguished properly. Always make sure your candle is out of reach from children and pets. Do not touch or move the candle until it has completely cooled.

  • The initial burn

When you first light your candle, allow the wax to melt across the surface all the way to the edge of the container, this guarantees an even burn and maximum scent throw. This initial burn should at least be 2 hours and not longer than 4 hours. Doing so will increase your candle’s lifespan.

  • Trimming your wicks

Trimming wicks is an extremely important step to care for your candle. We recommend trimming your wick to ¼ inch or 6mm before every burn, this ensures a clean burn throughout and prevents the build-up of soot around the top edge of the container.

  • How to handle soot

Soot is a black powdery substance consisting largely of amorphous carbon, produced by the incomplete burning of organic matter. If soot forms on the top edge of the container, extinguish the candle, wait for it to cool, then wipe with a clean damp cloth. Trim wick and relight.

  • How to extinguish a burning candle

There are several ways you can extinguish a burning candle safely. You can either extinguish the flame with a snuffer, or dip the wick into the melted wax and then straighten the wick to prevent smoke. You may also cover the candle with the lid to put the candle out - leave it be after the lid is on. Blowing out the candle is not recommended as wax may splatter and continue to emit smoke. Furthermore this may also cause an uneven burn.

  • Keep away from wind

Remember to keep away your candle from drafts, vents or air currents. This will help prevent uneven burning and soot.

  • Don't burn all the way down

Discontinue the use of the candle when there’s only ½ inch or 12mm of wax left as this can be a fire hazard. This will also prevent possible heat damage to the counter/surface, or the container itself.

  • Maximizing the scent throw

Open windows and doors will disperse scent and lessen the concentration. For maximum experience keep windows and doors closed and burn in desired space for 30 mins before entering.

  • Storing your candles

Avoid direct sunlight, always store your candles in a cool, dark and dry place. If you do not use it for a while, putting on the lids helps to protect your candles from daily dust and retain the candle scent.
